The Who To Release New Album ‘WHO’ On November 22, Their First In 13 Years

The Who will release a new album, WHO, on November 22nd via Polydor Records, their first in 13 years. The rock band has previewed the release with rollicking, politically-tinged single “Ball and Chain,” which the band has previously played live.

The eleven-track album was primarily recorded in London and Los Angeles during the spring and summer of 2019, and was co-produced by Pete Townshend and D. Sardy, with vocal production by Dave Eringa. Simon Townshend, Benmont Tench, Carla Azar, Joey Waronker and Gordon Giltrap contributed to the songs as well.

The songs tackle various subjects including, the Grenfell Tower fire, musical theft, spirituality, reincarnation, the power of memory and what it’s like to be an aging rock star. The artwork for the new album was created by artist Sir Peter Blake, a longtime friend of the band, and was unveiled last night at the Pace gallery in New York City.

The Who are touring the U.S. this fall, with several stops at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. They will embark on a U.K. tour in support of the new album next year. The band’s last album, Endless Wire, was released in 2006.

Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, The Who & More Tease Mega-Festival Planned For October

1

The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, The Who and Roger Waters have all released teasers surrounding their involvement in a rumored mega-festival set to take place at the Coachella festival grounds from  October 7-9.

All of the acts posted teasers for the blockbuster fall event on their social media accounts. In a 30-second clip, the Stones showed a record spinning “All Down The Line” while cigarette smoke wafted upward. Waters’ clip showed a grainy black-and-white concert footage playing a stadium show. Dylan posted a brief career reel to the song “Ballad of a Thin Man.” McCartney posted live audio footage singing the Beatles’ “I’ve Got a Feeling.” All of posts involved the same cryptic word “October…” hinting at the massive event.

Neil Young is also rumored to appear at the event, but did not post anything to his social media accounts. A representative for Young did not immediately return a request for comment. Tentatively, two of the six Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees will play each night, with Dylan and the Rolling Stones opening up the festival Friday night. Saturday would see Young and the Promise of the Real performing before McCartney. The Who and Waters would end the festival on Sunday night.

Goldenvoice and AEG Live, the organizers behind Coachella, Stagecoach, FYF, Firefly and Panorama, are reportedly involved in producing the festival, but have not officially confirmed their involvement.
