Walking Dead Theme Park Attraction Coming Permanently To Universal Studios Hollywood

TWD_AMC-Blog-Post_1200x707

Universal Studios Hollywood has announced a permanent residency of its immersive The Walking Dead walk-through attraction, which up until now has only been offered as a seasonal (and very highly-attended) maze for guests of the theme park’s Halloween Horror Nights.

Prepare to be spooked year-round by the re-imagined, enhanced version of the attraction, based on AMC’s corporeal cable series, when the attraction opens in summer 2016. The addition comes just months after the park’s game-changing Wizarding World of Harry Potter opens in April.

The Walking Dead attraction is significantly more intense than its Halloween iteration; the stomach-churning walk-through experience will boast “authentic walker make-up effects, sophisticated animatronic walkers, substantially more detailed set design and costuming, and highly recognizable props replicated from the series.

Screen Shot 2016-03-12 at 3.22.05 PM

The creative team at Universal Hollywood has partnered with TWD producer, director, and all-around effects guru Greg Nicotero (as well as his company, KNB Efx) to bring the show’s zombies to real life for the maze and its patrons.

A new custom-built structure will house the new addition to the theme park, just inside the main entryway. According to Universal Studios Hollywood president Larry Kurzweil, The Walking Dead marks the latest portion of a whopping 75 percent of new territory that has taken over the park in the last five years.

New Banksy Exhibition Dismaland Pokes Fun At Disneyland

1

British graffiti artist Banksy has taken satirical aim at Disneyland with a new theme park set to open in the U.K. this weekend.

Dismaland, built over an unused open-air swimming pool in the seaside town of Weston-super-mare, is billed as a “bemusement park” and “the U.K.’s most disappointing new visitor attraction,” and makes numerous artistic swipes at the cultural and political establishment. Alongside works by Banksy himself, there are pieces by artists like Damien Hirst and Jenny Holzer.

Grumpy guards are set to welcome guests while inside there’s a decrepit version of Disney’s classic Cinderella castle (behind a warped model of Ariel, from Disney’s Little Mermaid), plus a pool with tiny model boats full of refugees and a grim reaper sitting in a bumper car. Surly stewards wearing Mickey Mouse ears are also on hand to offer insincere-sounding welcomes.

“I guess it’s a theme park whose big theme is — theme parks should have bigger themes,” Banksy said in a statement, adding that Dismaland was a “festival of art, amusements and entry-level anarchism.”

The exhibition, which Banksy described as a “family theme park unsuitable for children,” is his first in the U.K. since 2009’s Banksy v Bristol Museum, which drew more than 300,000 visitors.

Dismaland is due to run for six weeks.

A Frozen Ride Is Coming To Disney World

ANE7966464

Construction has begun at Walt Disney World Resort on a brand new “Frozen” attraction at the Norway Pavilion in Epcot. The new attraction, which replaces Maelstrom, will take guests to Arendelle and immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film. The pavilion will also include a royal greeting location where Anna and Elsa can meet guests.

“Frozen’s” popular characters will also have a bigger presence at Magic Kingdom Park this holiday season. In addition to the ongoing character appearances, Queen Elsa will use her powers to transform Cinderella Castle into an ice palace every night starting in early November. And Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party-goers can see Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf in Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.

The theme park is extending some favorite elements of Frozen Summer Fun LIVE!, too, so that guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios can continue singing along to “Frozen” songs with Queen Elsa and Princess Anna. Wandering Oaken’s will set up shop closer to the show through the holiday season and will feature a larger play area with real snow (in Florida!).

Universal Orlando Resort Reveals Details For The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley

Diagon Alley

With this summer’s opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley, Universal Orlando Resort and Warner Bros. Entertainment will bring even more of Harry Potter’s adventures to life inside a new, magnificently themed area that includes a revolutionary attraction experience, as well as all-new themed shops and dining.

The two companies revealed first-ever details about the new area and the one-of-a-kind adventures it will offer the whole family.  The spectacularly themed environment will double the size of the sweeping area already dedicated to Harry Potter’s adventures at Universal Orlando, expanding it across both Universal theme parks.

And – just like in the books and films – guests will be able to travel between the two areas aboard the iconic Hogwarts Express.

Universal Orlando launched a global phenomenon when it opened The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade at its Islands of Adventure theme park in 2010. That area includes the iconic Hogwarts castle – which houses the groundbreaking Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey attraction – and the village of Hogsmeade.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley will be located within Universal Orlando’s second theme park, Universal Studios, and will create new experiences based on the signature areas of London, Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley.

London Embankment

Universal’s creative team has been working closely with Stuart Craig and the production team from the Harry Potter films to make the new area as authentic and spectacular as possible – just as it did with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade.

The vision for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley is unprecedented, with Universal Orlando creating the world’s first centrally themed, multi-park experience.

After arriving at King’s Cross Station aboard the Hogwarts Express, guests will pass through London and the iconic brick wall archway from the films into Diagon Alley – a bustling, wizarding hub within a Muggle city.  There will be shops, dining experiences, and a new ride called Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts – a multi-sensory, multi-dimensional journey that will take theme park attractions to a new level.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley will give visitors the exciting opportunity to:

– Board the Hogwarts Express and journey between London’s King’s Cross Station (located in Universal Studios Florida) and Hogsmeade Station (located in Universal’s Islands of Adventure). The journey will be filled with views of London and the British countryside – as well as a few surprises. Park-to-park admission is required.

King's Cross Station

Hogsmeade Station

– Experience a groundbreaking new, multi-dimensional thrill ride, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, which will place riders in the middle of an incredible adventure as they navigate their way through the perils of the Gringotts vaults

HP and the Escape from Gringotts

– Witness the magical experience of a wand choosing a wizard at Ollivanders: Makers of Fine Wands since 382 BC, one of the wizarding world’s premier wand shops

Ollivanders

– Discover the darker side of magic in Knockturn Alley, the darkest of dark places that features Borgin and Burkes – a shop specializing in the Dark Arts that will offer a wide variety of Dark objects, such as Death Eater masks, skulls, and other sinister items

Explore some of Diagon Alley’s famous shops, including:

– Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, a vibrant shop featuring novelty items, magical jokes, and toys inspired by the books and films that will amaze the mischievous child in everyone

Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes

– Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occasions, where guests will find a variety of wizardwear from Hogwarts school uniform ties, scarves and jumpers, to authentic wizard’s robes and character costumes

– Magical Menagerie, which features a collection of plush animals, such as owls and Hippogriffs

– Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment, where guests can grab wizarding essentials such as telescopes, binoculars, armillary spheres, compasses, magnifying glasses and hourglasses

Springfield, The Simpson’s Hometown Comes to Life at Universal Orlando This Summer

Springfield Comes to Universal Orlando this SummerLR

Woo Hoo! Springfield, hometown to America’s favorite animated family, The Simpsons, comes to life at Universal Orlando Resort this summer.

The expansive, new area within Universal Studios will be anchored by the mega-attraction, The Simpsons Ride, and will allow guests to enter the world of The Simpsons like never before. It will be the only place in the world where guests can walk the streets of Springfield. It will include a brand-new outdoor attraction, places and foods pulled right from the show and two new Simpsons characters who will make their debut with the new area – Krusty the Clown and Sideshow Bob.

And yes – there will be Duff Beer, brewed exclusively for Universal Orlando.

For the first time ever – anywhere – fans will be able to walk down Fast Food Boulevard and visit the places that helped Springfield stake its claim as “Shelbyville by the Sea.” They will be able to grab a Krusty-certified meat sandwich at Krusty Burger, snatch the catch of the day at the Frying Dutchman, get a slice at Luigi’s Pizza, go nuts for donuts at Lard Lad, enjoy a “Taco Fresho” with Bumblebee Man and imbibe at Moe’s Tavern.

The new attraction – called Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl – will take “foolish humans” on an intergalactic spin designed to send them into orbit.

“This will be a must-see experience for Simpsons fans all over the world,” said Mark Woodbury, President of Universal Creative. “For the first time ever, they’re going to be able to enter a world that they’ve only seen on television – and we’re really excited to bring that world to life.”

“This new expansion will broaden and deepen the already incredible experience at Universal, by bringing to life the iconic landmarks of Springfield that fans have grown to love,” said Jeffrey Godsick, President, Fox Consumer Products. “Fans will literally be able to live and breathe Springfield as they visit the statue of Jebediah, enjoy a Krusty Burger, and have a seat at Moe’s Tavern, which are just a few of the great experiences awaiting at Universal.”

“It has been an honor to bring the world of the Simpsons to life in such a letter-perfect way,” said Denise Sirkot, President, Worldwide Brand, Gracie Films. “Truly this is the Krustyest place on earth.”
