Behind The Scenes of TIME’s Drones Cover

To front its June 11 issue with the coverline “The Drone Age,” now on newsstands, TIME magazine collaborated with Intel to send a massive fleet of 958 drones skyward and into precise formation to form the newsweekly’s logo and trademark red border. The drones were then shot by another drone, also suspended in midair.

The result was one of the biggest drone shows ever produced in the U.S., so of course it drew some attention. One Folsom, Calif., resident interviewed by a local news reporter recounted, “Up in the sky, I saw the future.”
