Sting Channels Constantine To Celebrate 30th Anniversary of Hellblazer

In a special video, worldwide music icon Sting reveals he will pen the foreword to the Constantine, Hellblazer: 30th Anniversary Celebration

commemorative collection. Sting’s foreword will take on the perspective of the Golden Boy, Constantine’s alternate-universe twin, touching on his relationship with the occult detective over the years.

In the video, which he took time to film while preparing for his upcoming 44/876 tour with Shaggy, Sting captures the resemblance between himself and the character while wearing the recognizable Constantine trench coat. The musician’s inclusion in the Hellblazer celebration is a nod to the fact that he inspired the antihero’s signature look.

Starting with his first appearance, a debut penned by legendary writer Alan Moore (Watchmen), Constantine has served as an enduring and controversial pop culture character—an exorcist and demonologist, master of the dark arts, and the lead of DC Vertigo’s longest-running and most successful title.

The commemorative collection will explore the complete history of the series with four one-page essays written by Hellblazer author Rich Handley. It will also include a comprehensive timeline of Constantine’s life and three one-page stories featured in John Constantine: Hellblazer issues #1, 2 and 4. Memorable stories from Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Garth Ennis, Brian Azzarello, Paul Jenkins, Jamie Delano and others reflect the best of the long-lasting series, including Hellblazer issues # 11, 27, 41, 63, 120, 146, 229 and 240 and Saga of The Swamp Thing # 37, where the character was officially introduced.

The Constantine, Hellblazer: 30th Anniversary Celebration commemorative collection will be available everywhere books are sold on October 30. Sting’s 44/876 Tour with Shaggy starts on June 19th, please visit www.sting.com for more details.

The Lost Boys To Receive Sequel In New Comic Series From Vertigo

LOST-BOYS-1-OF-6-31caa

Vertigo Comics has announced a new Lost Boys comic series that will serve as a sequel to Joel Schumacher’s cult-favorite ’80s horror-comedy.

Hack/Slash creator and Grayson scribe Tim Seeley will write the series, with The Dark & the Bloody’s Scott Godlewski and Patricia Mulvihill on interior art duties, and Tony Moore (Shade) providing covers. The creative team is set to offer a sequel to the original film that delivers all the bloody, big hair fun of the 1987 classic.

“I saw ‘The Lost Boys’ at a formative time in my life, when a VHS, a VCR and a summer afternoon were a perfect escape into a crazy world of biker vampires with mullets and monster-fighting hippy grandpas,” Seeley told Variety. “‘The Lost Boys’ was one of my entry points into the horror genre, and I’ve been fascinated ever since. Getting the chance to write a sequel to the film, featuring the original characters, and getting to work with Scott, Patricia and Tony is truly a high point in my comic book-making career.”

Check out the official solicitation for Vertigo’s “Lost Boys” #1 below, along with some of Godlewski’s interior art from the first issue below:

The stakes are raised in this nostalgic and unstoppable sequel to the ’80s cult classic vampire film, The Lost Boys. Veteran horror writers Tim Seeley and Scott Godlewski deliver a gruesome and stylish return to the bloody boardwalks and big hair of 1987!

Santa Carla, California is on edge. The eccentric coastal town and haven for the undead was finally returning to “normal” after its last supernatural scuffle left the local coven’s head vampire dead and gave newcomers Michael and Sam Emerson a housewarming both violent and bizarre. Now the brothers must once again team up with militant vampire hunters Edgar and Allan Frog when a new gang of ruthless, stunning, life-sucking nightcrawlers known as the Blood Belles emerges from the aftermath to collect Michael’s love interest and their lost sister, Star.

Lost Boys #1 hits stands on October 12.

Sneak Peek At Vertigo’s American Vampire: The Long Road to Hell

american-vampire1

Vertigo has unveiled a preview of American Vampire: The Long Road to Hell #1, a one-shot co-written by Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque, with art by Albuquerque. A variant cover will be drawn by Tony Moore.

Arriving June 12, the special features the return of fan-favorite vampire hunter Travis Kidd (introduced in the series’ “Death Race” arc) as he tracks a pair of newly turned young lovers — the “Heartbreak Killers” — across the American heartland.

“This is my first time writing for Vertigo and it’s a big honor,” Albuquerque said in March. “Once it was decided we would go on hiatus, I approached Mark (our editor) with the idea of doing this special, so the fans could have a ‘taste of blood’ while waiting for the book’s return. He liked the idea and we (Scott Snyder, Mark and I) began talking about it.”
