Warner Bros. Announces Matrix 4 Starring Keanu Reeves & Carrie-Anne Moss

A fourth live-action film in The Matrix franchise is happening! Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will return as Neo and Trinity with Lana Wachowski set to write and direct the film. Production on the film is scheduled to begin in early 2020, Wachowski co-wrote the script with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell.

Plot details on the film haven’t been revealed, and given the ending of 2003’s The Matrix Revolutions it’s not a clear cut answer.

The three previous films—The Matrix (1999), The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003)—have earned more than $1.6 billion at the global box office and were all top-10 domestic hits in their respective years of release. The Matrix Revolutions was also the first film ever to release simultaneously in every major country at the same hour around the world. Special 20th-Anniversary screenings of The Matrix are being held at select AMC Theatres locations across the U.S., starting August 30.

The Dark Knight Trilogy Returning To Theaters For Special Anniversary Screenings

Warner Bros. Pictures is returning all three films in Christopher Nolan’s $2.5 billion “Dark Knight” Trilogy to the biggest of the big screens—IMAX film—in honor of the first-ever appearance of Batman in the comics.

First, on Saturday, March 30, the films—2005’s “Batman Begins,” 2008’s “The Dark Knight” and 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises”—will screen back-to-back at the Universal Cinema AMC at CityWalk Hollywood, California. During an interlude between the second and third films, Nolan will join the audience for a moderated Q&A discussion on the movies.

Then on April 13, the Trilogy will screen at AMC Lincoln Square in New York City and AMC Metreon in San Francisco, followed by Cinesphere Ontario Place, Toronto, and IMAX Theatre at the Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis, on April 20, each accompanied by the footage of Nolan’s Los Angeles appearance.

In all five cities, all three movies will be seen in the director’s preferred format, IMAX 70mm, providing an all-encompassing moviegoing experience. In fact, it was Nolan who, with “The Dark Knight,” was the first filmmaker to shoot the action sequences of a major feature film with IMAX cameras, revolutionizing the integration of IMAX and standard formats. He again utilized IMAX cameras even more extensively in “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Goldstein stated, “Christopher Nolan broke new ground with the ‘Dark Knight’ Trilogy, and this is a rare chance for today’s audiences to experience these extraordinary films as they were meant to be seen. To have the added privilege of hearing Chris’s insights firsthand makes this a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Tickets for all events will go on sale beginning Wednesday, March 13, at 9 a.m. PDT, and moviegoers who acquire tickets for all three films will receive a lanyard and special “Dark Knight” Trilogy collectible.

Warner Bros. Plans To Build Tramway Linking Burbank Lot To Hollywood Sign

Warner Bros. has a bold vision for an aerial tramway to transport visitors to and from its Burbank lot to the Hollywood sign. Like a plan that Musk has for a high-tech hyperloop that would shuttle riders between Los Angeles and San Francisco, the Warners tramway would alleviate traffic and parking problems that plague the famed landmark.

The studio, now owned by innovation-focused AT&T, on Monday told Los Angeles officials that it will pay the estimated $100 million for the so-called Hollywood Skyway.

“The Hollywood sign is an important historic and globally recognized landmark for the city of Los Angeles. The sign’s fame, however, has created unintended negative effects such as heavy traffic in adjacent residential areas and related safety concerns,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson said in a statement. “The concept of an aerial tram as a solution is one that been suggested in the past and was most recently highlighted as a potential solution in the comprehensive strategies report by Dixon Resources Unlimited.”

Warners decided to step up given its close proximity to the north side of the Hollywood sign and wanted to be part of a solution that has the least impact possible on the environment so that Griffith Park and the surrounding residential neighborhoods are left largely undisrupted.

“We understand there are a number of possible solutions being considered, but we are confident the city’s feasibility study will show our proposal to be the best option — an option that can be built and operated at no cost to the taxpayer and that will provide public benefit to the city of Los Angeles and its residents,” the studio spokesperson added.

The length of the tram route would be more than 1 mile and last roughly six minutes — a far cry from current driving estimates even under the best conditions — traveling up the back of Mt. Lee to a planned visitors’ center near the sign.

Warner Bros. Pictures Delays Batman vs. Superman To 2016

batman_vs_superman-770x472

Warner Bros. Pictures has made the surprise announcement that the studio has pushed back Man of Steel sequel Batman vs. Superman from a July 17, 2015 release to May 6, 2016. Warner will release an all new live-action Peter Pan adventure in place of Batman vs. Superman on July 17, 2015.

Here’s the official statement:

Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that the release of Zack Snyder’s untitled Superman/Batman film has been moved to May 6, 2016, allowing the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story. The decision was made following the shift of the start of production to second quarter of this year. The Studio has also set a July 17, 2015, worldwide release date for its as-yet-untitled all-new Peter Pan adventure. Joe Wright will direct the epic live-action film about the boy who would never grow up, created by J.M. Barrie. The dual date announcement was made by Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President, International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

In making the announcement, Fellman stated, “We are happy to take advantage of these coveted summer dates, which are perfect for two of our biggest tentpole releases. We share the fans’ excitement to see DC Comics’ most popular figures, Superman and Batman, together on the big screen for the first time, which will now be arriving in theatres in May 2016. Peter Pan has delighted people of every generation for more than a century, so we are thrilled to bring him back to the screen next summer for today’s moviegoers.”

Kwan Vandenberg added, “We know that there is already great anticipation building for the next Super Hero film from Zack Snyder, and we are equally eager to see what he has in store for Superman and Batman as they share the big screen for the first time ever. The summer release corridor is also perfect for Joe Wright’s ambitious new Peter Pan adventure, reimagining the ageless story of the beloved and forever-young hero for audiences worldwide.”

Zack Snyder’s Superman/Batman film stars Henry Cavill, reprising his role as Superman/Clark Kent, and Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne. The film will also reunite “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane, and also stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.

Snyder will direct the film from a screenplay written by David S. Goyer, from a story co-created by Goyer and Snyder. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan and Wesley Coller serving as executive producers.

The film is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, Batman characters created by Bob Kane, and Wonder Woman created by William Moulton Marston, published by DC Entertainment.

Tim Burton In Talks To Direct Michael Keaton In Beetlejuice 2 For Warner Bros.

Screen Shot 2013-10-21 at 4.28.14 PM

It was back in 2011 when Warner Bros. was interested in developing a sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 comedy, Beetlejuice. Today, TheWrap confirmed that Burton has received an offer to direct and that Michael Keaton is expected to reprise his role as the titular fast-talking, black-and-white stripe-wearing ghost with the most.

While the original film also spawned a lesser-known animated series, a theatrical sequel was planned in the early ’90s with the title Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. Burton had planned to return as director, but the project failed to develop beyond an initial screenplay. It is currently unknown whether or not David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith’s upcoming script will have any crossover with that original concept.

Burton’s next film, Big Eyes, reunites him with Ed Wood screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. Set to star Amy Adams, Christoph Waltz, Danny Huston, Krysten Ritter, Jason Schwartzman and Terence Stamp, the film is a biopic of artist Margaret Keane and is expected to see release sometime in 2014.
