Idris Elba To Replace Will Smith In The Suicide Squad

A week ago it was reported that Will Smith would not reprise his role as Deadshot in Warner Bros. and DC Films The Suicide Squad. Now Director James Gunn and the studio have selected Idris Elba (Pacific Rim, Star Trek Beyond) to replace Smith as the expert assassin.

Margot Robbie will skip this sequel as well.

Former Guardians of the Galaxy director James  Gunn will write and direct The Suicide Squad, which will act as a soft reboot for the franchise. Deadshot is one of the key characters on the comic book team. However, Deadshot made his debut as a Batman villain before joining the Suicide Squad. He was also featured in The Secret Six, and headlined a few solo adventures.

Warner Bros. has scheduled The Suicide Squad for August 6, 2021.

First Trailer For Bright, Starring Will Smith & Joel Edgerton

bright

Bright is Suicide Squad director David Ayer’s next project and will be coming to Netflix in December. The film reteams Ayer with Suicide Squad star Will Smith and is also headlined by Joel Edgerton (The Gift, Exodus: Gods and Kings) and Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Prometheus).

Set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves and fairies have been coexisting since the beginning of time, this action-thriller directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad, End of Watch, writer of Training Day) follows two cops from very different backgrounds. Ward, a human (Will Smith), and Jakoby, an orc (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine night patrol that will alter the future of their world as they know it. Battling both their own personal differences as well as an onslaught of enemies, they must work together to protect a young female elf and a thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which in the wrong hands could destroy everything.

David Blaine returns to primetime television in a groundbreaking new special David Blaine: Real or Magic, this November on the ABC Network.

David Blaine’s signature brand of street magic mystifies the most recognizable celebrities in the world, including Jamie Foxx, Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Ricky Gervais, Katy Perry, Woody Allen, and Robert DeNiro, to name a few.

He goes into the homes of Kanye West and Harrison Ford, Will Smith and Olivia Wilde. He visits Stephen Hawking at his office in Cambridge University. Blaine also travels the world, astonishing people from all walks of life with never-before seen, inconceivable magic.

Blaine has been captivating the world with death-defying feats for nearly two decades. He’s been buried alive in New York City for a week, encased inside a six-ton block of ice for three days and nights, he stood atop a 100-foot-tall pillar in Bryant Park for 36 hours without a safety net, survived on nothing but water inside a transparent box in London for 44 days, and spent one week submerged in a sphere-shaped aquarium at Lincoln Center, at the end of which he attempted to break the world record for breath holding. A year later, he succeeded in breaking that record live on The Oprah Winfrey Show, holding his breath for 17 minutes and 4 seconds. In 2008, Blaine hung upside down for over 60 hours in New York’s Central Park. Most recently, in October of 2012, he stood in the middle of a million volts of electricity for 73 consecutive hours.

With Real or Magic, Blaine redefines magic once again, eliciting reactions that both shock and defy all expectations.

The 90 minute special will air on November 19, 2013 from 9:30 PM-11PM EST on ABC.
