Jerry Seinfeld Makes ‘Marriage’ Plans with NBC

Jerry Seinfeld and NBC are reuniting for a new series, this one coming with a little more fanfare than his last show at the network.

The new show is also not a sitcom. It’s an unscripted show called “The Marriage Ref,” in which comics and other celebrities will listen to couples lay out their marital issues and make judgments about who’s right on the spot. Seinfeld and long-time “Oprah Winfrey Show” producer Ellen Rakieten will executive produce.

“This is not a therapy show, it’s a comedy show,” Seinfeld says. “After nine years of marriage, I have discovered that the comedic potential of this subject is quite rich.”

“While ‘Seinfeld’ was a hilarious look at single life, this new show will focus on the humor of relationships and marriage,” says Paul Telegdy, NBC’s head of alternative programming. “It’s a great fit with the slate of alternative comedy we are building at NBC.”

NBC has asked for six episodes of “The Marriage Ref.” There’s no word yet on a premiere date.
