Writer Dave Eggers has announced he will be releasing a new novel, A Hologram For The King ($25). According to the McSweeney’s website, the book is due on on June 19th.
A Hologram For The King will be Eggers first entirely fictional novel since the 2002’s And You Shall Know Our Velocity. In addition to his writing, Eggers founded the McSweeney’s literary journal and the 826 National writing centers. He also co-wrote the screenplay for the 2009 Spike Jonze film Where The Wild Things Are
The novel is set in Saudi Arabia. There we meet Alan Clay, a middle-aged sales executive whose life has been decimated by the new global economy. Alan’s job is to convince King Abdullah to let an American firm provide the information technology for the King’s new economic city. In the process, Alan hopes to stave off foreclosure, pay his daughter’s college tuition, and rebuild his own life.
