Stranger Things’ Drive-Through Experience Coming To Los Angeles In October

Downtown Los Angeles will soon have access to “Stranger Things: The ‘Drive-Into’ Experience,” an interactive theater show co-produced by Netflix and Fever, this October.

Attendees will be safely quarantined in their vehicles, which they will use to literally drive through various different sets, stopping for extended periods as actors and special effects bring scenes to life around them. As scenes come to an end, the convoy will be ushered into the next location, as a new convoy takes their place. Each convoy will consist of 24 cars.

Stranger Things has always been larger than life and we wanted to flip the world upside down for our fans,” said Greg Lombardo, head of experiences at Netflix, in a statement. “So buckle up like Billy is driving, keep your eyes on the neon lights, and steer clear of the shadows because there’s no telling who or what you might come across in Downtown Los Angeles this October. Whatever you do, don’t get out of your car!”

Some of the set pieces at the hourlong experience will include recreations of the Starcourt Mall, Upside Down and the Russian Labs. Visual and auditory aspects will also be set up to reflect the 1980s setting, and some of the show’s characters will make appearances.

Secret Cinema, the same company that brought a recreated Starcourt Mall immersive experience to U.K. fans in late 2019 and early 2020, is behind the creative direction of this new event.

A waitlist is available now on the event website, and tickets will go on sale August 26.

“Stranger Things” is currently celebrating eight Emmy nominations, including in the drama series category, with an eye on resuming Season 4 production as well. (They were approximately a month into shooting the new episodes when the coronavirus pandemic shut down production.) The show comes from co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer and stars Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Sadie Sink, Priah Ferguson and Winona Ryder.

“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway — and  even more excited to announce the return of Hopper! Although it’s not all good news for our “American”; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human…and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a  new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything….

Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for  everyone to see more. In the meantime — pray for the American.”

Stranger Things Themed Ice Cream Shop Scoops Ahoy Pops Up In Burbank

The wildly popular Netflix series Stranger Things has transformed a Baskin-Robbins in Burbank into a retro style ice cream parlor.

Through Sunday, July 14, the shop will double as Scoops Ahoy, the nautical-themed ice cream parlor (and employer of Joe Keery’s character, Steve) that is a favorite hot-weather hangout for Hawkins’ heroes. The immersive takeover will transport Stranger Things fans to the summer of ’85. Even the staff’s uniforms and the drive-through got a makeover.

The menu features a bunch of new Stranger Things frozen treats!

To transform Baskin-Robbins’ L.A. flagship, Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer granted the ice cream company exclusive behind-the-scenes access: “We read the scripts back in October; [the Duffer brothers] allowed us in their offices and we got three hours to read,” David Nagel, Baskin-Robbins senior director of consumer engagement, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Naturally, the store houses an Instagram-worthy, ship-themed photo opp wall with wood paneling, brass portholes and a working brass bell. The shop’s floors and walls were covered in blue-and-white checkered and striped vinyl, freezer door handles were swapped out with nautical rope and every visible Baskin-Robbins logo (even on napkin holders and the sliding glass doors) was replaced with the fictional dessert counter’s anchor logo. Of course, there are plenty of Easter eggs for fans to discover.

To pull it all off, Baskin-Robbins worked closely with Stranger Things set designer Jess Royal on the interiors. “She was talking about all the detail and research that she goes into, so we started doing our own research about the ’80s and how we could be totally authentic. Everything we’ve done, we’re matching to the show, even down to our TV commercials,” says Nagel. The brand’s research and development team (“They are the best anywhere; they’re a mix of food scientists and chefs”) whipped up the menu.
